Sanity Savers and More...
January 2005

I'm looking forward to being in touch with you. This newsletter is a way of my doing just that. I'll be sharing some thoughts, Sanity Savers and information about articles, appearances, publications, interviews, and seminars on a variety of topics.

As you may know, "I'm OK, You're My Parents" was published by Henry Holt & Co. in April 2004 and I'm starting off this year with the publication of the paperpack! Shortly "Wedding Sanity Savers," co-authored with Annie Gilbar, will be available.

Looking forward to being in touch and would appreciate you sharing this newsletter with your friends and colleagues (see Send to A Friend button below).

Wishing you a healthy, peaceful and balanced 2005.

    Healthier Family Connections

Now that the holidays are over and we've dealt with our families, we can enter a new year with the hope of beginning healthier family connections.

Think about what you can do differently to foster the changes you would like to see and practice them so you'll be successful. You do not do this because you believe you will change the other person. You will change and therefore the relationship will change and grow.

Remember, you are not going to reconstruct this relationship overnight. Begin with one step at a time.

  • Reflect on Time Together: Sit alone and reflect on what happened and which emotions you felt
  • Assess Your Response and Consider Alternatives
  • Keep Expectations Reasonable and Realistic
  • Remind Yourself What is Already Working Well
  • Attempt to Understand the Other Person's Point of View and Visualize a Better Interaction
  • Practice Your New Response: e.g. in the mirror, with a trusted friend, write a letter/e-mail which you will likely not send
  • When You're Ready, Take Action

  • "I'm OK, You're My Parents"
    now in paperback

I'm OK, You're My Parents is now available in paperback. Learn how to overcome guilt, let go of anger, and create a relationship that works.
